It is with great pleasure that I welcome here this morning, under the spotlight of the Haitian media, the Ambassador of Taiwan accredited to Haiti, who has come to pledge his support to the Government of Haiti within the framework of the organisation of the 10th Business Forum of the Greater Caribbean.

President Clinton Announces Trade Mission to Haiti in his Address to the Second Annual Congress of the Haitian Diaspora

Miami, 9 August 2009 - President Bill Clinton addressed an audience of hundreds of participants today at the Second Annual Congress of the Haitian Diaspora. In his remarks, he reiterated his commitment to assist the people and Government of Haiti as they expand job opportunities and essential services in their country. As part of this mission, President Clinton continues to encourage international private sector investment in Haiti, and today announced his plans to travel to Haiti on a trade mission in October 2009 with international investors.

Deep-pocketed investors want to pump millions in Haiti. The Soros Economic Development Fund (SEDF) has launched the Haiti Invest Project, an equity-investment programme with an initial commitment of up to US$25 million. The SEDF is a non-profit private foundation, which is part of the network of charitable foundations created by investor and philanthropist, George Soros. Established in 1997, the fund’s mission is to make financial investments to assist in alleviating poverty and community deterioration.
