Speech by Minister of Trade and Industry on the occasion of the ceremony and a check for US$100 000 by the Taiwanese Ambassador as his country's contribution to the organization's Business Forum of the Greater Caribbean in Haiti.

Ambassador of the Republic of China to Haiti,

Representatives of the Chambers and Associations of the Private Business Sector,

Members of the Organising Committee of the 10th Business Forum of the Greater Caribbean,

Officials and employees of the Ministry of Trade and Industry,

Distinguished Members of the media,

Ladies and Gentlemen,

It is with great pleasure that I welcome here this morning, under the spotlight of the Haitian media, the Ambassador of Taiwan accredited to Haiti, who has come to pledge his support to the Government of Haiti within the framework of the organisation of the 10th Business Forum of the Greater Caribbean. .

The hosting of this great event here in October will facilitate the establishment of a forum for exchange and partnership among the business entrepreneurs of the Greater Caribbean. It will also provide an opportunity to promote the development of private investments in Haiti, while contributing to the identification of business opportunities and facilitating market access by investors and entrepreneurs, by extending networks and alliances between Haitian and foreign companies. It is therefore critical that Haiti take full advantage of this rare opportunity, and all partner countries and friends of Haiti are today well aware of this fact.

This is no doubt what motivated the Republic of China (Taiwan) to support the organisation of this activity by presenting us with this cheque for 100,000, 00 $US, an act which we are here to witness this morning.
This gesture is proof of the willingness of the Government and people of Taiwan to support all initiatives designed to better position Haiti in the business world. Yet another bridge has been built between two nations, which, despite the geographical distance between them, continue to enjoy good relations through a cooperation that brings with it viable initiatives that can lead to economic growth and sustainable development.
On behalf of the Government and private sector of Haiti, organisers of the 10th Business Forum of the Greater Caribbean, I would like to extend my most sincere thanks and warm congratulations to the Ambassador of Taiwan to Haiti, who took the initial steps leading to this substantial financial support to advance the preparatory activities for this Forum.

I would like to extend a special invitation to Taiwanese companies seeking to enter into other markets and share their experiences with the companies of the region, to come and participate with us here in Haiti, from October 21 to 24, in this big business meeting of Greater Caribbean companies.

I reiterate my gratitude to the Ambassador of Taiwan for this great support and thank you all for your kind attention.
